Hopkins to the Titans
By: Dharya Sharma
The rumors can go now, and the speculation can die: Deandre Hopkins is now a Titan. After weeks and weeks of rumors, the Titans struck a deal with Hopkins earlier today, signing him to a two-year, $32 million dollar deal, with $26 million guaranteed. With the signing of Hopkins, the Titans acquire a big-time playmaker to pair alongside Treylon Burks and Derrick Henry. The Titans knew they made a mistake trading AJ Brown, and are now trying to cover up that deep hole. GM Ran Carthon finally makes his first big splash as Titans GM, and we hope many more are on the way, Now, let’s address the massive elephant in the room…
Many believe this is deja-vu for the Titans as acquiring future hall-of-fame wide receivers on the wrong side of 30 hasn’t worked for the Titans. Dating all the way back to Randy Moss, and the most recent example, Julio Jones. This will be different for the Titans, and here is why. Julio Jones, Randy Moss, and Andre Johnson all relied on their athleticism and big-play ability. That won’t be the case for D-Hop as he doesn’t rely on his athleticism much, more on his route-running and hands. Now, Hopkins is coming off some injuries over the past couple of seasons, and that could be a cause for concern. If Hopkins can stay healthy and play at least 14 games this season, the Titans have a real shot of recapturing the AFC South Crown!!
